Meet Our President: Piper Plummer

Impact100 Greater Milwaukee's new president, and a firm believer that nothing happens alone.

Spend a little time with Piper Plummer, Impact100 Greater Milwaukee's new president, and you quickly discover a woman who is deeply committed to community, but who also appreciates great champagne, a beautiful purse, and the occasional Diet Coke with French fries.

At the heart of Piper's leadership is a simple but powerful belief: Community should solve the problems of community.

"We're all here for each other. No one does it alone. No matter how much we may love our alone time, we need each other. Nothing meaningful happens entirely on our own."

A Career Built on Community

That conviction has shaped Piper's life and career. She spent 20 years working in the nonprofit sector in a variety of roles, including positions with association management firms where she divided her time among multiple clients, serving as executive director for one organization and membership director for another. She also worked for city government in Lexington, Kentucky, and for the Chamber of Commerce.

"I've always been—and felt—very civic," Piper shares.

After her daughter Tess was born, Piper worked part time for two years before stepping away from the workforce. She always imagined she would return, but life had other plans. Seventeen years later, she brings to Impact100 a rich combination of professional nonprofit experience, civic commitment, family life, and a genuine desire to connect people with one another.

A Kentuckian in Wisconsin

Piper moved to Wisconsin for her husband, a Wisconsin native who has spent nearly his entire life here. While Piper has embraced many things about her adopted home, including Kopp's cookies and cream custard, she remains a loyal Kentuckian at heart.

She is a devoted University of Kentucky sports fan who proudly says she "bleeds blue" for her Wildcats, even during the difficult seasons. She compares that loyalty to the devotion Packers fans demonstrate year after year. When Tess chose to attend Piper's alma mater, it created an especially meaningful connection to home.

Piper loves being outdoors, although Wisconsin winters have not won her over. She prefers beaches to snow and believes the right clothing can make winter more bearable—even if it cannot make her actually like it. She also loves traveling but has grown weary of the experience of air travel. Her preferred solution? Learning to "Apparate," as the characters do in Harry Potter, and simply arriving at her destination.

Home & Family

At home, Piper and her husband have two dogs with very different personalities and stages of life. As Piper affectionately describes them, "One is ready for the nursing home, and the other is ready for the bars."

She is also "GiGi" to four grandchildren, two girls and two boys, ages four, three, two, and one. One family lives in Austin and the other in Charlotte, and Piper wishes they were closer so she could share more of the things she loves with them.

Beautiful Things

Piper's appreciation for beautiful things once led her to manage the Milwaukee retail store The Past Basket for nearly two years. She recalls the experience fondly: "I love beautiful things, and that store has the most beautiful things ever!"

A Few of Piper's Favorite Things

"I never knew custard could be so good until I moved here," she admits.

Leading Impact100

Piper brings warmth, humor, experience, and an abiding faith in collective action to her role as president. Her belief that we need one another beautifully reflects the spirit of Impact100: women pooling their resources, wisdom, and passion to create meaningful change in the communities we share.

As Piper begins her presidency, she invites members to continue building relationships, sharing their voices, and remembering that our greatest impact is possible when we come together.

Because, as Piper reminds us: Nothing happens alone.
